Cathedral Cellar raises the bar for competitors and scores a double-whammy!
May 26th 2011, 14:23
The Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay 2010 scored a double-whammy for the KWV Premium range when it not only scooped a gold award at the recent Decanter Wine Awards but went on to secure its second gold of 2011 at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a competition known for its diversity, not only in producers which enter their wines and spirits, but also a jury which brings together international wine experts ranging from wine journalists to sommeliers.
Says Chief Winemaker, Richard Rowe of the recent accolades, ‘Over the last three years we have been busy evolving the style of our Chardonnays' to be more elegant, fruit focused with very subtle oak, and to this end have been actively sourcing fruit from cooler regions, and have been delighted with the recognition we have received from international judges at Concours Mondial & Decanter’.
This elegantly-styled wine with layers of fruit, consisting of lime, citrus, orange blossom and white peach, is evidence of a truly remarkable wine produced from a harvest that will be remembered for its erratic weather changes and which posed several challenges to our winemakers and viticulturists alike.
The fruit flavors are complemented by toasted oak, hints of nougat and minerality. On the palate the wine is flavorful, balanced and full with a crisp, zesty finish and can be enjoyed either on its own or with creamy seafood or pasta, and chicken dishes.
‘This award signifies our commitment to delivering a premium quality brand, as the Cathedral Cellar range typifies our pursuit of excellence and quality, and epitomises the new KWV energy’, adds Cathedral Cellar Brand Director, Jeff Gradwell.
Available at selected specialist wine outlets throughout the country, the Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay 2010 retails for approximately R87.00 per bottle.
