Clover Makes its Milk “Way Better” With their new Shelf Life Extension

Keeping at the forefront of innovation in the dairy industry, Clover is launching an Ultra Pasteurised milk variant, which bridges the gap between fresh and long-life milk, and features a shelf-life of 30-days from the day of packing. In addition, consumers living in KwaZulu-Natal and Inland regions can now expect their fresh milk to last up to 18 days.

Technology Inspiring Innovation
“Glycol deep cooling, by way of example, ensures that the cold chain of our milk is maintained at below 4°Celsius while our products remain under our control. Bactofugation units have also been installed at our fresh milk pasteurisation plants to remove certain spoilage organisms capable of surviving the pasteurisation process. This effectively serves to ensure the extended 18-day shelf-life for our fresh milk. In addition, ultra-clean filling machines have been installed to guarantee our shelf-life promise,” explains King.
To achieve the 30-day shelf-life for its new Ultra Pasteurised variant, Clover has also invested in steam injection technology to heat the milk gently using steam, which kills bacteria and preserves the milk for a flavour profile in-between fresh and UHT milk, but closer to fresh milk.

Clover Mama Afrika, Clover’s CSI project, is proud to announce the appointment of Gail Koeberg who runs the Quegal Restoration & Refuge Centre in Magaliesig, Gauteng. Gail Koeberg joins the 44 appointed Mamas who collectively care for almost 13000 children and nearly 1 800 elderly people, many of which are abused, orphaned, homeless and vulnerable.

SA dairy exports doing well

Dairy imports for February were 4 110 tons at a cost of R172 million. South Africa imported mainly from France (28%) New Zealand (28%), Germany (13%), Poland (8%) and Ireland (4%). Dairy imports for this year are low compared to last year, largely due to limited UHT imports. The main dairy products imported in February were whey (34%), milk powder (22%) and cheese (18%). UHT as a percentage of total imports was less than 1%.
