Krone, masters of vintage Cap Classique from the historic Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate in Tulbagh, have released their 2016 vintage Cap Classiques.

KRONE VINTAGE ROSÉ CUVÉE BRUT 2016

A tribute to Pinot Noir, the Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut is a paradox of rich, berry fruit and refreshing, natural elegance.

Blend: 85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: Salmon-pink in colour; Elegant, floral bouquet with delicate pomegranate and red apple notes; Fine, creamy mousse with a punch of juicy, rich berries; Smooth, bone dry finish enhanced by lingering berry notes.

Food Pairing Suggestions: Charred squid with tamarind and pineapple salsa, Creamy prawn and avocado cocktail with spiced lime wedges, Salmon with crispy skin crackling and wild rice, Sesame-encrusted seared tuna, Charcuterie board featuring parma ham, prosciutto and saucisson sec.
Retail price: Krone Vintage Rosé Cuvée Brut 2016 is widely available nationally in select liquor retailers and grocers at approximately R120 per bottle.

KRONE DEMI-SEC

Demi-Sec is a distinctive style of Cap Classique that deserves to be discovered. It is probably the closest in style to the first famous sparkling wines of France a century ago: providing that touch of sweetness which renders the style “Demi-Sec”or Semi-Sweet in category.

KRONE NIGHT NECTAR DEMI-SEC 2016

Blend: 90% Chardonnay, 9% Pinot Noir, 1% Pinot Blanc
Tasting Notes: Pale lemon-yellow; Expressive aromas of baked golden apples, piecrust, and almonds; The full, rich palate evolves into lemon drops, sweet yellow apple and subtle marzipan flavours; The plush, sweet mousse makes for an expansive finish, with just enough refreshing acidity to tie it all together.

Food Pairing Suggestions: Creamy and fragrant butter chicken curry, Smoked fish croquettes with lemon aioli, Crispy duck pancakes with honey, soy and ginger reduction, Vanilla bean bundt cake, Pistachio macarons.

KRONE NIGHT NECTAR DEMI-SEC ROSÉ 2016

Blend: 85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: Subtle salmon blush; The spun sugar nose is laced with expressive notes of raspberries and cranberries; Rich and textured, the palate is all strawberries and cream, offering a long, velvet finish.
Food Pairing Suggestions: Prawns grilled on hot coals with coconut-lime basting and peach chutney, Sticky pork belly, Porchetta with mushroom stuffing, Strawberry cream cake, Raspberry pinwheels.

TWEE JONGE GEZELLEN

Krone Méthode Cap Classique is created on the historical Twee Jonge Gezellen farm, a fusion of heritage and innovation. The grapes are night harvested in the beautiful Tulbagh valley, flanked by rugged mountains. The vineyards reach up the east-facing slopes of the Saron Peak, while the underground cellar lies at the foot of the mountains. Krone pride themselves on combining traditional techniques and innovative practices to ensure that they produce the finest sparkling and still wines using Chardonnay and Pinot grapes.

A treasured national monument, the historic farm has recently re-opened after lengthy restoration and renovations. Visitors can journey through a series of extraordinary spaces that are filled with contemporary art, sculpture and collectible design, before moving on to sample Krone’s vintage Cap Classiques. Tastings are complimentary and the setting is extraordinary. The raised terrace offers singular views of the picturesque valley and the Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Obiqua Mountains, while the Tasting Room boasts a dramatic picture window that unveils the workings of the cellar.

The Tasting Room and Deck are open Monday-Friday from 10h00-16h00, and on Saturdays from 10h00 to 14h00.
