Apr 29th, 12:50

To keep South Africa at the forefront of global international developments within supply chain management, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport: South Africa (CILTSA) is hosting a first-ever, never-to-be repeated global supply chain update in October 2013. This is an unprecedented opportunity for supply chain professionals to gain extensive knowledge from three internationally-respected and highly sought-after supply chain gurus.

Martin Christopher, Lisa Ellram and Silvia Rossi are undisputed and world-renowned thought leaders in supply chain management. This multi-award winning trio is coming to the Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town on 22 October 2013 and to the Maslow Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg on 24 October 2013, to participate in a one of a kind ‘Meet the Gurus’ series hosted by CILTSA.

Martin Christopher – Managing the Supply Chain of the Future

Christopher has been at the head of development and new thinking in logistics and supply chain management for over 30 years. His contribution to theory and practice of logistics and supply chain management is reflected in the many international awards he has received. He was one of the first to recognise that the real competition is between supply chains and not companies and he has sought to identify ways in which supply chain excellence can be achieved and sustained.

Christopher’s winning approach to supply chains is an integrated perspective that takes account of networks of relationships, sustainability and product design, as well as the logistics of procurement, distribution and fulfilment. At Cranfield School of Management, one of the world’s premiere business schools, Christopher has helped build the Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management into a leading centre of excellence.

Lisa Ellram – Strategic Sourcing Expert

Professor Lisa Ellram is one of the world’s top 10 professors in supply chain management. Her name is instantly recognisable to anyone in the field thanks to her extensive publications record and high international profile. She has contributed for 20 years in academia in the field of logistics and supply chain management, publishing five books that cover a variety of topics within supply chain management implementation, value enhancement, target costing and strategic partnering. She has published over 90 articles in premier journals and also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Supply Chain Management, the longest standing journal focusing on supply management.

Ellram contributes a great deal of time and energy to the field of logistics and supply chain management and has been highly successful in doing so. Prior to her career in academia, Ellram worked in numerous management roles in the operations and supply chain areas at The Pillsbury Company. She also has extensive consulting experience and has worked with many large multinational firms such as Deere and Company, Toyota, American Express, LG Electronics and Johnson & Johnson.

Silvia Rossi – Achieving Sustainability for the Supply Chain

Dr Silvia Rossi is a Senior Research Fellow at the Supply Chain Research Centre and a leader of peer international research groups aiming at developing the knowledge to allow companies to become more environmentally and socially sustainable and more profitable. Her expertise lies in supply chain sustainability, humanitarian logistics and reverse logistics.

Rossi is actively involved as a researcher and spokesperson for the CO3 Project which tests an innovative framework for collaborative transport to synchronise freight flows of multiple supply networks in order to reduce environmental impact, while increasing efficiency throughout Europe. She is also involved in an NGO organisation running a humanitarian programme in Africa, offering her logistics knowledge and to fulfil her passion which lies in making a difference in people’s lives through her work.

A Chance to Interact with World-renowned Supply Chain Experts

“Never before have we had three people of this calibre in one place at one time at one event,” says Martin Bailey, Vice-President of CILTSA and Managing Director of Industrial Logistic Systems. “This exclusive programme offers limited opportunities to interact and engage with the gurus face-to-face through a series of interactive, closed sessions.”

“Managing supply chains in current volatile circumstances is challenging,” continues Manilal. With this in mind, topics to be explored include global mega-trends and their implications for logistics and supply chain management, the journey to supply chain excellence, strategic value management, inter-company collaboration, collaboration for freight logistics and sustainability.
