Beer Drinks Business Review - Dec 6th 2011, 09:43

US-based craft brewery Alaskan Brewing is set to add a third seasonal beer, Black IPA, to its existing line up in January 2012 .

Alaskan Black IPA (6.4% ABV) will be available in both 12 and 22oz bottles as well as draught format. The 12oz bottles come in 6, 12 and 24 packs, BrewBound reported.

Alaskan Brewing spokesperson Ashley Johnston said the spring seasonal Black IPA is brewed with Calypso hops in addition to the Cascade and Centennial hops that were used in the Double Black IPA.

"The malt profile is very similar, but the lower alcohol lends a slightly more quaffable mouthfeel," Johnston added.

The beer will be sold throughout the 12 states, where Alaskan products are currently distributed, until the company's Summer Ale releases in April or May, according to Johnston.

Alaskan Brewing has plans to expand into both Texas and New Mexico by summer of 2012. The company is in the testing and development stages of installing a steam boiler fueled by its spent grain.
