First official Middelburg Mall opening set in April 2012
SA Commercial Prop News - Feb 15th 2012, 09:42
Less than two years after Flanagan & Gerard Property Development and Moolman Group started the construction of its most ambitious R500 million retail project to date, the eagerly awaited Middelburg Mall will open its doors to shoppers on 19 April 2012.
This is an admirable achievement, considering its developers announced in November 2011 that exceptional retailer demand had boosted the shopping centre’s initial size by a whopping 10,000sqm. What's more, this is also despite a small setback from minor storm damage to the roof in January 2011.
Developers have pulled out all the stops to ensure shoppers get an even bigger and better shopping experience, and get it on time. Already, retailers are moving in, fitting out shops, training staff and getting ready to bring fresh new quality shopping to Middelburg and its surrounds.
Middelburg Mall is poised to be a delight for shoppers with its choice selection of SA’s most popular retailers all in a quality, contemporary setting. Even at its larger size – now 43,000sqm - Middelburg Mall is already 99% let.
For shoppers, this means getting more than they bargained when Middelburg Mall opens with its wide-ranging shopping experience and top-notch retailers. Its 94 shops are anchored by retail giants Checkers, Woolworths, Edgars, Pick ‘n Pay and Game.
SA retail centre developers and investors Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment and Moolman Group are driving development of Middelburg Mall.
“Middelburg Mall will provide the underserviced shoppers of the area with an easily accessible, quality shopping experience,” says Patrick Flanagan of Flanagan & Gerard. “The large number of retailers which have eagerly invested, to be closer to their shoppers at Middelburg Mall, prove its necessity”. The mall has further built-in expansion potential. It could eventually exceed 55,000sqm.
“We’re pleased to bring local consumers more variety, more choice and more quality at Middelburg Mall,” says Flanagan.
Superb convenience will be offered with Middelburg Mall’s full house of local banks: Absa, African Bank, Capitec Bank, FNB, Nedbank, Old Mutual and Standard Bank.
SA favourites Wimpy, Spur, Sausage Saloon, Mugg & Bean, Mozart Ice Cream, McDonald’s King Pie, Delhi Delicious, Dilly’s Doughnuts, Cappuccinos, Steers, Fishaways, Debonairs and Giramundos will all serve up a feast at the new mall.
Gadgets, goodies and games will be offered to shoppers by Autopage Cellular, BT Games, Cell C, Foto First, MTN, Telkom, Vodacom and Incredible Connection. Books and stationery will be on offer from Bargain Books, Khoki, Cardies and CNA. Need a little help in the reading department? Torga Optical, Middelburg Mall Optometrists and Classic Eyewear will look after your vision.
Musica and Raslo Music Middelburg will delight music-lovers. Other specialist shopping needs are covered by Bags & Baggage, Flight Specials, Glomail, Happy Pet, Kanhym Fresh Meal Deli and Biltong Deli and Verimark.
For the fashion forward, the choices will be endless. Step out in the latest ranges from Cape Union Mart, Old Khaki, Chanson, Contempo, Davison’s, Foschini, Identity, Jet, Joomas Fashion and Sports World, Klines, Legit, Mannequins, Mr Price, Pep, Queenspark, Rage, Solo, Studio 88, Trappers Trading and Truworths.
Clicks, Barber SA, Galaxy & Co, Gatsby Salon, NWJ, Perfect 10 and Ralo Cosmetics will provide the flair and special touches.
“Middelburg Mall is tenanted to provide comprehensive retail to the growing and ever more affluent community of Middelburg and its surrounds,” explains Jannie Moolman of Moolman Group. “However, we are confident that, with all this, it also has sufficient critical mass to attract consumers from a wide trade area.”
The mall’s superb location, off the busy N4 highway with access via both the Fontein Street offramp and the Tswelopele Avenue, makes it easily accessible to all shoppers. With its great visibility, the shopping centre is already a landmark in the area.
But it is inside that shoppers can expect the real retail magic. Middelburg Mall is designed for easy shopper flows and visual appeal. Bright high-ceilinged air-conditioned malls will be lined with modern, high shop-fronts to create a fresh and exciting shopping experience.
And it is the hand-picked finishing touches – tiles, painting, railings, bathrooms and other features – that the developers are currently putting in place to complete the mall.
“We are comfortably on schedule to open on 19 April 2012. Middelburg Mall will be a world-class retail asset that meets the needs of both consumers and retailers, by bringing them together,” says Flanagan.
