Namibia: Trustco/Shoprite Introduce Free Life Cover
AllAfrica.com - Oct 15th 2012, 08:47
Trustco and Shoprite have entered into an agreement to provide free life cover insurance to regular Shoprite customers.
The free life cover insurance is for customers who regularly shop at any Shoprite, U-Save and Checkers supermarkets across the country and are in possession of a mobile phone. Customer purchase goods for as little as N$20 at a time and receive a free life cover slip. The service is made possible through mobile technology.
"This is a unique way of making life cover free and accessible to thousands of Namibians who shop at Shoprite and have no access to the traditional distribution channels for insurance," says Janene van den Heever, the head of Trustco Namibia Operations.
"This new product is in line with the Shoprite Group's objective to continuously improve the range of services it offers to its customers in a one-stop shopping experience by making added value products available to them," says Paul Malan, General Manager of Shoprite Namibia.
Both Shoprite and Trustco Group Holdings Limited maintain primary listings on the JSE.
"Many customers of the Shoprite chain of outlets buy for more than N$20 and own cellphones. What they needed was the ground-breaking innovation presented by this cutting edge technology and synergies provided by the service providers and the insurer. We expect to roll it out, not only in Namibia, but in South Africa, the rest of the African continent and beyond as soon as possible," said Quinton van Rooyen the Group Managing Director of Trustco Group Holdings.
