Europe’s largest private-label consumer goods company has reported a huge increase in its supplier engagement, helping it to stabilise input costs across the group.
The company, which supplies branded household and personal-care goods to European retailers, has been involved in a large scale restructuring, to which procurement and supply chain is integral.
Reporting its half-yearly report to 31 December 2011, the group said that the restructuring had allowed it to bring stability to a number of different cost areas.
"McBride’s strategic sourcing capability remains essential to the performance of the group and has been further strengthened," the company said in a statement. "Our ability to establish long-term arrangements with large-scale suppliers has allowed us during 2011 to bring some stability to material costs."
It went on to say that the scale of material cost reduction and re-engineering projects has been expanded, and that for the first time, "group-wide indirect procurement projects are realising significant savings".
On top of this, an improvement in supplier collaboration has led to more than 100 suppliers being engaged in the company’s future "development plans". "By investing in product innovation and improving our competitiveness, we expect to be able to continue to take market share," said chief executive Chris Bull.
