SA must address worker health and education simultaneously,
says Accsys
People development specialists believe the global trend of focusing
on health and education of individuals, from a young age, is
the best way to equip future workers to handle the pressures
of the modern market.
Authorities in Scandinavian countries like Finland have helped
to shed light on this aspect of human resource development.
In these countries, there is an emphasis on addressing both
physical and education needs in children – the rationale
being that sound physical conditioning ensures that youngsters
are more susceptible and receptive to learning.
Local people management specialists and HR management service
providers believe this approach can help address issues like
skills shortages and the impact of ill-health on labour - particularly
in developing markets like South Africa. “Education
and health should be priorities within labour-intensive markets
like we have in this country. These are primary needs for people.
If we are to achieve equality and balance in the workplace and
build a sustainable future, we need a labour force of healthy
and skilled people,” says Teryl Schroenn, CEO at Accsys.
Accsys, a member of the Business Connexion Group (BCX), is a
national supplier of people management software and hardware
solutions within the HR, payroll and time & attendance space.
Based on the company’s extensive knowledge of recruitment
and corporate management best practices, a healthy, educated
employee is perceived to be more of an asset to business and
the economy in general.
To this end businesses continue to support employees in their
efforts to acquire further skills and achieve work/life balance.
Technology has a major role to play here says Schroenn. “There
is a marked increase in interest and investment in eLearning
and the value of this channel in acquiring online payroll qualifications,
for example. Online is immediate, far-reaching and does not
require extensive resources and support.”
Accsys says the market needs skilled labourers and quickly.
Online tuition and eLearning has emerged as an important resource
to bypass traditional logistic issues, such as distance, access
to resources and cost.
Stakeholders in education, business and HR development have
their work cut out for them says Accsys management. However,
if all parties can work together, socio-economic growth and
market maturity are likely. Read
