The Retailer re-launched!
Over the past few weeks you may have noticed a dip in activity on www.theretailer.co.za. This is not due to a lack of effort though, in fact it is quite the opposite! Over the past few months we’ve been working away, putting the finishing touches on our brand new site. The Retailer has now merged with its sister site, fastmoving.co.za.

Although the look is new, you’ll still find all your old favourites on the new site and a whole lot more! We’ve renovated the entire site and apart from the obvious cosmetic changes a lot has been done to add value to our services and offer even more to you, our clients and subscribers.

We have developed custom sections on the site for each major sector in the Retail industry. These mini-portals keep the entire Retail industry abreast of product developments, news and suppliers within any particular sector. All available at the click of a button.

Fastmoving is the ideal platform to make an impression on the Retail industry and we invite you to join us in driving stimulation and interest where it matters. As we continue to grow as a valuable resource in the industry, we also want to help you to promote your brand.

Footprint
At the highest level, Footprint(c) will provide a map of selected shopping malls, stores or outlets (e.g., bank branches) across South Africa. At present, we have over 26,000 outlets coded, encompassing over 360 brands. These brands are spread across clothing and footwear, grocery, books, home ware, fast food, restaurants, banks, gyms, hotels, motor dealers and many more.

Mapping of a store or outlet footprint is possible to a very granular level, and information on each store/outlet will be available. Shopping malls will also be plotted and relevant complexes will be visible on the detailed maps. Footprint will function as a central source of information on shopping malls, including information such as the year of development and any subsequent refurbishments, the gross leasable area, the number of parking bays, the latest foot count, and the number of shops as well as a list of shop names. read more

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
Will manufacturing shift from China to Africa?
In 2000, when William Hickey, president and CEO of US-based packaging company Sealed Air, took a long-term view on the future of his company, he predicted that by 2050 Africa would have replaced China as the world’s manufacturing hub.

“Eleven years later I think we are behind . . . 2050 becomes a challenge [but] I still think it is doable,” Hickey said during a session at the recent World Economic Forum on Africa, held in Cape Town.

Headquartered in New Jersey, Sealed Air manufactures a wide range of packaging materials and equipment for the food, industrial, medical and consumer industries. The New York Stock Exchange listed company has a presence across the world, including Africa.
