AB InBev set to spur growth of beer brands

In October, AB InBev bought SABMiller for more than $100 billion (R1.3 trillion) to create the world’s largest beer maker. One of its primary reasons for concluding the deal was to gain a foothold in the African market. Ricardo Tadeu, president of the new Africa zone in AB InBev, told City Press that the company was looking to invest in two new production lines in South Africa at an estimated cost of between $100 million and $140 million.

However, Bloomberg quoted Tadeu as saying that AB InBev could make an investment of $150 million and $200 million in the two new South African production lines. Tadeu said the number of local jobs to be created was not yet known. He said AB InBev was planning a new plant in Nigeria.
