Lay’s introduced the ‘Lay’s Flavour Cup’ earlier this year where consumers had the opportunity to vote for their favourite challenger flavour to take on the South African Biltong flavour in the final of the ‘Lay’s Flavour Cup’. The competing flavours were Airedale Cheese & Black Pepper from picturesque New Zealand with Prawns on the Barbie from sunny Australia and Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding from regal England.
The competition was fierce and for the four week voting period fans made it known which challenger flavour had their steadfast support by voting online and voicing their opinions through social media platforms. “Prawns on the Barbie received majority votes from early on in the competition and has been awarded the special task to take on the South African Biltong flavour in store for a limited period, allowing fans a chance to get a true taste of the flavour”, says Roma Ramkhelawan, Senior Brand Manager for Lay’s.
The Biltong flavour went through to the final of the ‘Lay’s Flavour Cup’ automatically as the South African representative but the added element of surprise around which flavour would be voted a worthy challenger allowed for a fun element. “The packs are easy to recognise on shelf with a look unique to the Lay’s Flavour Cup. We are happy with the outcome and excited about the possibilities around these two new flavours”, adds Ramkhelawan.
In support of the Lay’s Flavour Cup, Lay’s launched a new television advert featuring SA icon John Smit as well as radio advertising and in-store support. To further interact with the ‘Lay’s Flavour Cup’ follow us on Facebook (www.lays-sa.co.za) and Twitter (@lays_sa).
Look out for the new SA Biltong Flavour and Australia’s Prawns on the Barbie in all major retail outlets and convenience stores in your area available in 36g and 125g bags.
