Balance your production flow

In the industry of fast moving consumer goods, it is important to have a balanced production flow as well as high-speed production. The focus is always on the number of products a factory produces per minute. A factory often has several machines that run independently of each other at different speeds, and consequently, those machines need different production flows.

If a machine running at 500 product per minute (ppm) is placed in front of a machine with 250 ppm you will need to divide the 500 ppm flow in two, and could, for example, add an additional machine of 250 ppm to balance the flow.

One solution for arranging products in various ways is a high-speed diverter. The high-speed diverter is best suited for industries with high production flows and offers perfect balancing of more than 1,000 products per minute. Products get distributed according to the downstream process and its capacity requirements, enabling a demand-driven production at higher capacities than ever before.

Allocating products traditionally means lowering the line speed to be able to switch track before the production speed increases again. This is comparable to a city traffic light and causes queues and traffic stops while redirecting traffic. A high-speed diverter has continuous motion, creating continuous production, working more like the flow on a freeway where traffic is woven together, maintaining the high speed.

A GENTLE HANDLING OF THE PRODUCTS

Another advantage is that a high-speed diverter handles the products very gently, which minimises the impact leading to reduced waste. Products are not stopped, clamped or queued, instead, they are conveyed smoothly and separated on a plain conveyor. It is flexible to different product formats and shapes and is easily adjustable for different sizes.

FlexLink’s Dynamic Motion Transfer (DMT™) high-speed diverter is a flexible solution that can be adjusted to fit different scenarios and enables an efficient production flow. It has a compact design, which allows easy addition of new machine capacity. Combined with the user-friendly HMI (Human Machine Interference), an easy and clear everyday operation of the DMT™ is secured. Very little or no adjustments are needed in changeovers between different product batches. Altogether, resulting in high line capability and yield, hence an increased line OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).

The role of packaging in reducing food waste
Today, more than 30% of all food produced globally is not consumed, while at the same time people are starving due to famine. Additionally, the unnecessary production of food that is wasted, is a significant contributor to global warming. Food waste is both an environmental and human issue that could be partly solved by packaging. Here is why!
