Boland Pulp's Puré SQUISH Fruit Purees

NEW PRODUCTS

Aug 19th 2011, 09:15

Boland Pulp, based in the Western Cape, has been exporting first grade fruit purees worldwide for the last 20 years and has recently added value to its market offering by building a complete pouch factory on its premises in Wellington.

The decision to build the pouch factory was based on trends in Europe and U.S.A where pouch technology is proving to be the most popular packaging solution seen in decades-no more heavy glass jars or bulky plastic bottles-the spout-pouch has arrived.

The pouches are made of a high-barrier material and are lightweight as well as taking up less space on shelf. Using pasteurization as opposed to preserving with chemical agents-the Boland Pulp products offer a solution to an ever-growing health conscious market. The stand-up spout-pouch makes re-sealing easy and product can be eaten directly from the pouch, or decanted as required.

Boland Pulp’s first offering to market was Puré Squish Fruit Purees. Five variants of fruit purees/smoothies without preservatives, colourants, additives or added sugar. This is popular with moms as the product can be consumed in transit (carseat, pram etc) and does not require a spoon to be eaten. The spout pouch is resealable and once opened it can be stored in the fridge for 48 hours. The Squish Purees offer 40% more product per pouch than the imported offering, which at around R7,99 makes it value for money too.

Squish was launched in December through Dischems, Pick n Pay (W.C) and Spar(W.C) and nine months later, boasts a national footprint and a growing fan-base.

Boland Pulp has started co-packing for several big brands and consumers will soon be familiar with the pouch concept in many varied food applications.

With the Puré Chef Ease range, which will be launched in the near future, Boland Pulp is confident that the delicious recipes they’ve developed as well as the spout- pouch packaging pioneered in South Africa by Boland Pulp, will see the Chef Ease and Squish ranges becoming the brands to watch over the next few years.
