Proudly South African recently contracted PocketMedia® Solutions to produce a credit card-sized Z-CARD® for its national “buy local” road show which kicked off in Mpumalanga at the beginning of May 2012.
The aim of the road show is primarily to educate consumers about how they can stimulate the local economy and help create jobs, through buying local products and services.
The road show has already travelled through Mpumalanga, KZN, the Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng. It will continue until March 2013 and will comprise mall activations, business forums, expos and meetings with various stakeholder groups.
Proudly South African member companies – along with local manufacturers and entrepreneurs – will continue to exhibit their products during mall activations, showing consumers what South Africa has to offer.
The “buy local” road show has featured well-known South African personalities including DJ Sbu, Somizi, Sonia Sedibe, Ryan O’Connor and Sebasa Mogale, among others. They have assisted in educating the public about the “buy local” campaign and the benefits of buying local products.
Through edutainment, audiences have also been encouraged to take part in festivities, competitions and dancing activities, while learning about the “country of origin label” and why local is indeed “lekker”.
The road show has been well received by consumers, while business owners and entrepreneurs have welcomed the various business forums.
Since the signing of the Local Procurement Accord on 31 October 2011, the drive to support locally manufactured products and services has been gaining momentum. Government, organised labour, organised business and community organisations have committed to supporting the procurement of local goods and services, with a view to creating five million jobs by 2020.
