Nike boss slams Donald Trump's "Muslim ban" policy

The boss of sportswear brand and retail giant Nike has slammed US President Donald Trump’s executive order that bans people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.
In an email to sent to employees, which is going viral on social media, Nike chairman, president and chief executive Mark Parker wrote: “This is a policy we don’t support.”
“Nike believes in a world where everyone celebrates the power of diversity,” he continues.
“Regardless of whether or how you worship, where you come from or who you love, everyone’s individual experience is what makes us stronger as a whole."
“Those values are being threatened by the recent executive order in the US banning refugees, as well as visitors, from seven Muslim-majority countries.”
Parker also conveyed support to Britain's four-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah, who was born in Somalia - one of the seven countries blacklisted by Trump - and moved to the UK when he was eight.
Farah now lives in the US state of Oregon with his family.
“What Mo will always have – what the entire Nike family can count on – is the support of this company,” Parker wrote.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of every member of our family: our colleagues, our athletes and their loved ones.”
Parker concluded the email by saying the company “together against bigotry and any form of discrimination”.
“Now more than ever, let’s stand up for our values and remain open and inclusive as a brand and as a company,” he wrote.
“We are at our best when we recognise the value of our diverse community.”
Nike has around 45 directly-operated stores in the UK and also trades online. All content copyright Retail Gazette. All rights reserved
