Johannesburg - Building materials retailer Cashbuild [JSE:CSB] reported on Tuesday that revenue for the second quarter and the half-year to December 2011 increased by 9%, compared to the same period a year ago. 

"Growth in revenue of 9% experienced during this quarter was in line with management objectives in the current trading climate. Selling inflation was at 5% at the end of December 2011 when compared to December 2010," the company said.

Giving the operational update, stores opened since July 1 2010 (six new stores) contributed 1% of the increase, while existing stores (185 stores) contributed 8%.

The company said transactions through the tills during the second quarter and the half-year showed no growth when compared to that of the same periods a year earlier. Transactions through the tills for new stores increased by 1% and fell by 1% for existing stores.

Gross margin percentage increased during the quarter from the corresponding period a year ago. Gross margin percentage for the first half was at similar levels to those of the second half of the previous financial year.
