Massmart Wholesale - Apr 19th, 13:11

Masscash, a division of Massmart, has expanded its presence in Mozambique with the opening of a newly built Saverite store in the district of Xai Xai, 200km away from Maputo.

The 5,500 sqm store, which will cater for businesses and communities in the surrounding area, will be the country’s biggest wholesale outlet outside Maputo.

Commenting on the opening of the store, Masscash Wholesale Divisional Managing Director, Neville Dunn said: “This will have a positive impact on local businesses in Xai Xai and even further north.”

Local communities have already begun to reap the benefit of the R30 million investment. “From the outset, Masscash has been aware of the importance of creating a store that will support the community. “The immediate benefit has been the upliftment of this community throughout the build itself,” said Dunn. “We have created 59 jobs and all the building materials have been locally sourced.”

Masscash is aware of the many challenges facing local and emerging businesses and is looking to prioritise local manufacturers and suppliers where possible. All fresh produce will be locally sourced creating more employment opportunities, with 45 local suppliers already identified. All liquor for the store will also be locally sourced.
