Opinion on the poultry debate

While the tensions between local chicken producers and importers reach new heights over price points and dumping claims, local retailers and consumers are caught in the fray. The debate is not so much about South American chicken (it could be Irish cheese, New Zealand mutton or Brazilian sugar) but more about South African industries struggling to compete in a global marketplace. It is about affordable food for consumers and balancing that against the need to employ South Africans.
